A drone-ready public structure is not simply an arch with equipment on top; it would require a defined operating mission, airspace rules, communications, safety controls, physical access and an agency responsible for every decision.

The statement presents the change as a national-security request from the military. It does not identify a military service, the kind of drones envisaged, the command authority, a budget, an environmental review, or a construction schedule tied to the security function. Those omissions are not minor implementation details. They determine whether a physical site can be used legally, safely and responsibly.
The Associated Press reported that the planned arch had received early approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, while the wider project faces legal challenges. AP also reported that the Pentagon had no information beyond Trump’s statement. That makes the current status straightforward: the president has described a new intended use; government agencies have not publicly supplied the technical or administrative record that would turn that intention into an operating capability.

Snipers, storage and the accountability problem
The president also described sniper positions and ammunition storage. Those claims introduce a different set of operational questions: access control, weapons custody, training standards, perimeter design, public disclosure limits and the relationship between federal security forces and local emergency command.
Those details should not be guessed. They are precisely the kind of matters that must be governed by an identified authority and subjected to the required review. The idea of turning an iconic structure into a security asset is not automatically impossible. Governments have long used infrastructure for resilience and protection. Public architecture also introduces a human factor that security plans often underestimate.
