While the Tesla Optimus is often regarded as the most advanced humanoid robot, UBTech, a Chinese robotics company, has just unveiled two commercial robots — the Walker C and Youyou. Both are designed with an extensive feature set aimed at consumers, focusing on assisting people with special needs or providing everyday support.
UBTech focuses on real-world deployment and ongoing learning for robots. The firm optimized robots for organized environments such as auto manufacturing plants by integrating simulation-based training with actual data.
Now, it’s expanding its reach to the consumer market, directly competing with global players like Tesla. Like Optimus, UBTech’s new robots are built to handle household tasks and are expected to be priced competitively.
Backed by the Chinese government’s strategic push in robotics, UBTech is in a strong position to capitalize on favorable policies and incentives. Speaking at the BEYOND Expo in Macau, Chief Brand Officer Michael Tam told Bloomberg,
“Home companion robots are a bright spot in China, partly due to the growing need for elderly care.”
China’s government has prioritized robotics as a key innovation area. With policy support and President Xi Jinping’s emphasis on technological advancement, UBTech plans to ramp up production to around 1,000 units this year, with further expansion slated for 2026.
With the rapidly growing robotics sector, UBTech faces tough competition from global giants like Tesla. The Tesla Optimus, which is for household chores, is priced competitively and covers a similar scope of the market. Competition to offer advanced and affordable humanoid robots is intensifying, with both companies in their early stages of production.
