BT, the owner of EE, said this was a result of a technical fault that affected voice services. One of the spokespersons confirmed that the problem has been rectified and services are back to normal. Affected customers were apologized to by the company and they were assured that voice services including emergency calls have been restored. Monitoring site Down detector indicated more than 2,500 EE customers complaining at 2:00 PM. Although Vodafone and Three were seen confirming that they were not having the same problems, the dramatic rise in other reporting networks could be attributed to the inability to connect to EE or BT numbers.
There were complaints on social media that users could not contact customer care to get a refund or call for their needy aged relatives. The helplines of BT and EE also crashed during the outage and this frustrated the customers even more. The emergency services were not an exception. The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue first sounded an alarm about problems with 999 calls, only to issue a later report that all was fine South Western Ambulance Service was not indifferent to the matter as well, where the issue demonstrated the extent of its coverage and danger.
According to the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, the outage affected the calls between EE and other networks. They assured that 999 digital voice calls were once again functional and urged the providers to keep reliable services, as it was their legal obligation now. Smaller telephone service providers such as 1pMobile that resell and use the EE network also complained of issues affecting some of their customers.
This was recommended because consumers should report the problem to their service providers early enough; this is relevant in tracing faults, along with demanding compensation where necessary. BT Group, which boasts of more than 30 million clients in the UK, is struggling to respond to what caused the problem and how widespread it was. In particular, the interference underscores the role that healthy, resonant communication channels play when emergency access is susceptible.
A network outage affecting thousands of EE and BT customers has been resolved, a spokesperson has said.
