Gaming Foundations Donate $1 Million to Digital Arts Education

Gaming Foundations Donate $1 Million to Digital Arts Education

In a move that is set to have a meaningful impact on the next generation of digital artists, game developers, and creatives, two leading gaming foundations, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the Entertainment for All (E4A) Foundation, have announced a joint donation of $1 million to support digital arts education.

The combined gift will be distributed to a range of organizations and institutions dedicated to nurturing the talents of aspiring digital artists, animators, game designers, and other creatives. The funds will be used to establish scholarships, provide mentorship opportunities, and support the development of curriculum and resources for digital arts programs in schools, colleges, and universities.

"Digital arts education is a crucial aspect of preparing the next generation of game developers, animators, and creatives," said ESA President, Mike Gallagher. "We are thrilled to support the E4A Foundation in this endeavor, as we believe that investing in the future of digital arts education will have a lasting impact on the industry and beyond."

E4A Foundation President, Catherine Dodsworth, echoed the sentiment, "Our goal is to empower the next generation of digital artists to harness their creative potential and bring their innovative ideas to life. This donation will help bridge the gap between education and industry, fostering a workforce that is equipped to drive the evolution of digital entertainment and beyond."

The $1 million donation will be distributed across a range of initiatives, including:

  • The establishment of a scholarship program to support students pursuing degrees in digital arts and game development
  • The development of curriculum and resources for digital arts programs in schools, colleges, and universities
  • Mentorship opportunities for students, provided by industry professionals and veterans, to guide and mentor them through their creative journey
  • Grants to non-profit organizations and community centers, enabling them to provide digital arts programming and resources to underprivileged communities

The donated funds will also be used to support the development of a new digital arts curriculum framework, designed to provide a scalable and adaptable framework for schools and educators to teach digital arts in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.

"This is an incredible opportunity for students to get their start in the field, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it," said Rachel Thomas, Director of the Art Institute of Atlanta. "With this support, our students will be better equipped to succeed in the ever-evolving world of digital entertainment, and we’re grateful for the ESA and E4A’s commitment to their growth and development."

The donation is the latest in a series of initiatives by the ESA and E4A to promote and support digital arts education, following on from previous efforts to create educational resources, provide job shadowing opportunities, and develop industry partnerships.

As the demand for skilled digital artists and game developers continues to grow, the ESA and E4A’s joint donation is set to have a lasting impact on the industry, providing a platform for the next generation of creatives to hone their skills, bring their ideas to life, and shape the future of digital entertainment.
