IBM Open Sources 50 Projects, Launches developer Works Open

SPR: Technology pioneer IBM has open sourced 50 tools and apps. These tools cover a large interest area varying from Cloud, Analytics, IoT, Mobile, Security, Social, Watson and more. The company has also launched developerWorks Open, a community to empower open source and IBM’s homegrown technologies.
As the voice to make the web a more open place gets stronger, different companies are contributing more and more to the open source technology. Companies like Google and Microsoft are embracing more and more open source utilities. We support this FOSS movement and recently we covered the top open source projects of companies like Facebook, Twitter, Netflix and Airbnb. In another similar development, IBM has open sourced 50 projects and apps.
Technology pioneer IBM is contributing to the open source community by adding the free access to more projects and platforms. Last week, IBM made this announcement. The company has launched developer Works Open, a community to empower open source and IBM’s homegrown technologies. Now, developers will be having access to these tools apart from the educational resources.
This tool covers a large interest area varying from Cloud, Analytics, IoT, Mobile, Security, Social, Watson and more. “Our open-source software is all built on top of Bluemix–IBM’s cloud platform–which developers have free access to $120,000 worth of cloud services,” IBM general manager Cloud Ecosystems and Developers, Sandy Carter told Eetimes. “But they are also available to high schools, colleges and universities who want to learn from the open-source community–to hone fine their open-source skills, and we hope to draw from for the next-generation of IBM coders,” she added.
Some of the open sourced projects are:
Activity Streams, Agentless System Crawler, Node Application Metrics, i18n4go, Clampify, IBM Design Language Web Animation Components, Object Storage for Bluemix, Mule, Gaian Database, IBM DesignLanguage Mobile Animation Components, Node-RED, IBM Bluemix Mobile Services SDKs, libsecurity, Cognitive Catalyst for Watson etc.
IBM already contributes to 150 open-source projects such as OpenStack and Linux. The source code of the projects is stored on GitHub.
