Apple’s latest iPhone 18 Pro series brings several upgrades, but they also come with a higher price tag in India. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900. Both models sit below Apple’s new foldable iPhone in the company’s lineup. The new Pro models bring a faster A20 Pro chip, longer battery life, and camera improvements. However, their overall design and display remain close to the iPhone 17 Pro series. At first glance, the iPhone 18 Pro looks very similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. Apple retains the flat sides, large rear camera plateau, and the same overall dimensions. However, the newer models are slightly heavier than their predecessors. The iPhone 18 Pro weighs 211 grams, up from 206 grams for the iPhone 17 Pro. Meanwhile, the Pro Max weighs 249 grams, up from 231 grams.
The biggest design change comes from the color options. Apple adds Burgundy and Glacier to the iPhone 18 Pro series, while Silver and Black continue. The company has dropped Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue from the new lineup. Both generations feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR ProMotion displays. However, the iPhone 18 Pro series gets a Dynamic Island that is around 35 percent narrower.
The iPhone 18 Pro brings longer battery life than the iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple claims up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro. In comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro offered up to 33 hours of playback. The Pro Max also gets a bigger jump, reaching up to 45 hours versus 39 hours. Apple has not revealed the battery capacities of the new models. The iPhone 17 Pro had a 3,988mAh battery, while the 17 Pro Max packed 4,823mAh. The iPhone 18 Pro models also support faster wired charging through USB Type-C. Apple claims five minutes of charging can add up to six hours of video playback.
Apple upgrades the iPhone 18 Pro series with the A20 Pro chipset. The iPhone 17 Pro series uses the previous-generation A19 Pro chip. According to Apple, the new chip delivers up to 20 percent faster everyday performance. It also offers up to 40 percent better graphics performance. These improvements could make a difference in gaming, AI tasks, photo editing, and other demanding workloads.
The A20 Pro also claims twice the neural compute performance of the previous chip. Apple further claims up to 40 percent better sustained performance. On the software side, the iPhone 18 Pro models ship with iOS 27. The iPhone 17 Pro models can also receive the latest software through an update. This keeps the software experience largely similar across both generations. However, benchmark and real-world testing will better show the performance gap.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro use the same 48MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 48MP telephoto cameras. Both generations also feature an 18MP front camera. So the main camera upgrade doesn’t come from a higher megapixel count. Instead, the iPhone 18 Pro models introduce a variable aperture on the main camera. It supports f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0 settings. The iPhone 17 Pro uses a fixed f/1.78 aperture. A variable aperture lets the camera control how much light enters the lens. The wider f/1.48 setting can capture more light in suitable conditions. However, detailed testing will show how much this changes real-world camera performance.
The iPhone 18 Pro series comes with a higher price tag than the iPhone 17 Pro lineup in India. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 for 256GB. Its storage options go up to 2TB, which costs Rs 3,14,900. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900 and goes up to Rs 3,29,900 for 2TB. The iPhone 17 Pro series started at Rs 1,34,900. This makes the new Pro models noticeably more expensive at launch. Apple has also increased the price of every comparable storage configuration. Or, you can just ask your friend to bring the iPhone from these countries.
