OPPO’s ColorOS skin has been my favourite skin for quite some time, as evident by my reviews of the Find X8 and the K13 Turbo. Consequently, I’ve been looking forward to the launch of the newest ColorOS version and what it might bring. The wait is finally over, as OPPO has just unveiled the latest ColorOS 16 Android skin, and there are a ton of new features.
I’ve repeated time and again, OPPO has the best animations on Android. With ColorOS 16, the brand is pushing it even further. The new skin introduces something called Seamless Animations, designed to create a more cohesive experience. In simple terms, ColorOS 16 brings much more refined and smoother animations, all while keeping battery drain to a minimum.

There’s also an All-New Luminous Rendering Engine that handles the transitions between different animations to make them less jarring. On the other hand, a new gaming engine helps effectively distribute system resources.
ColorOS 16 also introduces a fresh new look, which builds on its predecessor and includes several new lock screen customization options. Options like the ability to set any motion photo as their background, coupled with an array of new fonts and clock options. There is also a new lockscreen AOD mode, which lets users see their whole lockscreen, similar to iPhones.
New AI & Connectivity Features

As expected, ColorOS 16 also introduces new AI features, too. While the company hasn’t revealed all of them, the AI Portrait Glow seems quite useful. As per OPPO, the mode helps improve portrait shots by “optimising skin tones and balancing light with a single tap.” We are yet to test this feature, since the open beta for the new version is exclusive to China.
The O+ Connect app, which helps users transfer data between their phones and iPhones, is also getting an upgrade. It can now facilitate data transfers from Android to both macOS and Windows operating systems. OPPO will debut the new skin with the upcoming X9 series, and the update is likely to roll out to flagship devices first.
