Quick Share now Works with AirDrop & Google Didn’t Ask Apple

Google has officially announced that Quick Share can now connect with Apple’s AirDrop, giving Android users a simple way to transfer files to iPhones and Macs. What makes this even more unusual is that Apple hasn’t acknowledged the update at all, suggesting the breakthrough came entirely from Google’s side. Available first on the Pixel 10, this update lets users easily share photos, videos, and files across Android and Apple devices without needing any other tools.

Why This Google Apple AirDrop Update Matters

This update is a big deal for everyday users because it finally closes a long-standing gap between Android and iPhone users. It removes the hassle of installing third-party tools when you want to move something from Android to an iPhone. Now, people using different devices in the same home, office, or classroom can share files instantly without any extra steps.

However, Apple’s not commenting on the feature has created a lot of curiosity. The company hasn’t announced or confirmed any role in this update, which makes people wonder if there was any collaboration between the two. In the past, Apple openly talked about changes like RCS messaging and tracker alerts, so this lack of response feels unusual.

It currently looks like this update is completely Google’s effort. There’s even speculation that the company reverse-engineered AirDrop to get Quick Share working with it. This move could easily spark tension, and if Apple pushes back or blocks it, the company could face questions from regulators about fair competition.
