Nvidia Claims One-Generation Lead Over Google as AI Chip Competition Intensifies

In spite of the increasing competition, Nvidia states that its AI chips are a generation ahead of AI chips at Google.

This claim overlaps with activity reports that suggest that Meta is negotiating to deploy the TPUs manufactured by Google in its data centers, which could change the AI chip market. Nvidia said in a post on X

“We’re delighted by Google’s success. They’ve made great advances in AI and we continue to supply to Google”.

In the case of Blackwell GPUs, Nvidia controls more than 90% of the market, which is well supported by high performance and versatility that cannot be matched by ASIC-based TPUs created by Google as per reports by its CEO Jensen Huang and other representatives.

Market Leadership and New Developments

Management confirmed more than $500 billion in combined Blackwell and Rubin GPU orders stretching into the end of 2026, reflecting unmatched visibility across hyperscaler, enterprise, and sovereign AI programs.

The B300 already accounts for two-thirds of Blackwell sales, replacing Hopper’s architecture in most major cloud data centers.

This can be translated to a growing profitability in quarterly revenue as compared to the previous years, highlighting the dominance of Nvidia.

The company focuses on the fact that its GPUs support all AI models in both clouds, on-premises and edge deployments, but Google TPUs, though competitive, are designed to be used internally and a small number of customers through the Google Cloud.

“We are experiencing accelerating demand for both our custom TPUs and Nvidia GPUs,”

A Google spokesperson said in a statement

“We are committed to supporting both, as we have for years.”

The recent move by Meta to lease and later integrate Google TPUs between 2026 and 2027 in what can be discussed as the strategic diversification could provide Google with a presence in the external AI chip market.

Google Cloud insiders base their estimates on the assumption that at some point in the future TPU sales will constitute a percentage of Nvidia sales, estimated to be about 10%

Future Outlook

Although Google innovated and Meta was diversified, the CEO of Nvidia emphasizes that the first laws of AI scalability are the basis of the high demand in the technology developed by Nvidia.

The unmatched versatility, broad applicability, and sales pipeline of Nvidia all put it in a positive light to sustain its competitive advantage in the world of AI chips.

However, mounting strain due to the increasing usage of TPU by Google forms a major competitive motif to industry participants in 2026 and beyond.

The competition is therefore a crucial turning point in the AI infrastructure funding, which indicates a fast innovative curve and increased stakes in the quest of AI dominance.
