A Game-Changing Multi-Fold Smartphone for 2025

The newly designed Galaxy 3 Multi-fold Smartphone, also known as the Galaxy 5Z triple fold, has been announced by Samsung Electronics, which is a huge strategic move in the foldable market that is growing but is tiny.

The TriFold priced at around 3.59 million won ($2,440.17) for a 10-inch display, which is about 25% bigger than the latest Galaxy Fold 7, and aims to push the bounds of the existing foldable devices.

Folding technology: Breaking the Strait-jack

The phone consists of three foldable screens and has a Samsung largest battery in its flagship line, which performs a quick charging process where in 30 minutes its charge capacity is already 50%

Alex Lim who is the Executive Vice-President of Samsung added that the TriFold is designed and focused towards a particular group of clients that not only sought the state-of-the-art innovation, but also desired to enjoy mass-market scale.

The handset will first hit the South Korea market on the 12th December 2025 and future launches in China, Singapore, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates in the rest of the calendar year, and an impending launch in the United States towards the beginning of the upcoming 2026.

Challenges and Competitions in the Market

In spite of Samsung having a large market share, with 64% of the foldable segment in Q3 2025, which is a significant jump of 9% the previous quarter, the foldable smartphone has a relatively small share of the world market, with only less than 2% of all smartphones being sold this year.

Counterpoint Research predicts that the foldable market will reach 3% by 2027 and will have a rate of growth of approximately 30% due to Apple gearing to roll its own foldables.

Ryu Young-Ho, Senior Analyst at NH Investment & securities, notes that

“the device could face durability issues as a first-generation product, making market reception a key factor.”

The long-term issues in this first-generation trifold construction deal with the longevity and maturing of this type of structure.

Future Outlook

With Chinese rival Huawei, as well as an innovation by Apple in the future, putting increased pressure on the market, the innovation could drive consumer demand faster than it would convert foldables into a mass-market product, but not necessarily.

Increasing component prices and high prices are also discouraging growth opportunities.

However, assuming that foldable devices will keep increasing at an appropriate pace over the next two years, it is possible that the Trifold will serve as an accelerator of further adoption in this niche of the smartphone market.
