Mario Paint is one of the games that comes onto Switch Online

Nintendo Switch online just got a cult favorite super NES game, Nintendo Mario Paint. Mario Paint initially released in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was a rather unusual game that prompted its users to be creative through the use of digital art tools, animation, and music composition.

In 2025, the exciting name is finally back again to a new generation of gamers and creators. Recently released as part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, it can be played by newcomers or people who want to revisit this retro experience.

Design with Mario in a Whole New Way:

Mario Paint transfers its market to Nintendo Switch, preserving the same good feeling, but with a couple of new elements. The original still allows users to play the same by connecting a compatible USB mouse to the Nintendo Switch system to draw, animate, and play rhythms through that compatible USB mouse.

In the game on the Nintendo Switch 2, the new Joy-Con 2 controllers act as a mouse, and moving around the canvas is simple, and the ideas come to life. Its tools are pretty basic and easy to use, with a sense of play, and they cater to everyone, even those with no artistic education. Mario Paint challenges the player to exercise their creativity, be it drawing a character, animating a short film, or making a goofy song.

Music That Can Inspire Your Creativity:

In line with the game, Nintendo is providing the Mario Paint soundtrack on its Nintendo Music application. It is a free application on the Nintendo Switch, specifically for Nintendo Switch Online members, as well as on smart devices.

It also has music not only from Mario Paint, but also from other popular Nintendo franchises such as The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario. Soundtracks can give rise to that creative spirit. Whether you are creating new art or simply chilling, these songs give admirers one more reason to have fun in the world of Nintendo, other than playing the games.

The advantages of the Nintendo Switch Online:

Mario Paint is the latest title in the already expansive library of retro games that are available on Nintendo Switch Online. The club has more than 150 old games, and this club remains worth its price to the enthusiasts of older games. In addition to these classics, members will have access to multiplayer over the internet available on supported games, unique offers such as F-ZERO 99, and the Nintendo Music app. Members of Nintendo Switch 2 will even be able to make chats by voice with their friends and family, thanks to GameChat. It is a free feature until March 31, 2026, when a Switch Online membership will be required to use the feature.

Sporting More than a Game:

Mario Paint is not just a re-release, but rather the hymn of preservation and novelty. Nintendo has stated that it wants to introduce this game to a generation of people, and that speaks to the company focusing on its old and new audiences. Still, Mario Paint is a relaxing game that includes fantasy in a gaming world full of activity and competition. You could make colorful pictures, goofy cartoons, hummable music, and this title allows you to be the artist and storyteller.

This will be a nostalgic homecoming to those who have known Mario Paint as they grew up. And to the people who have never experienced the game before, now is as good a time as ever to find out what made this game so memorable more than 30 years ago.
