Nintendo has added Joy Convention 2 variants in the color of light purple and light green to the switch 2 lineup. Such variants will be offered on 12 February together with the release of Mario tennis fever.
The controllers are now in pre-order at a price of unit $99.99, the same as the two Light Blue and Light Red versions currently in circulation.
This announcement will be the first alternate Joy-Con 2 colors to have ever been offered in the history of the Switch 2, offering a much more oblique look compared to the overall dark colors presented in the console itself.

A Subtle Design Shift
The Joy-Cons are made up of pastel purple and green shells that are complemented by violet and teal accents on the joystick rings and side rails. This soft color scheme adds visual variety but does not contradict the minimalist idea of Nintendo on the Switch 2.
Over 14.2 million Switch 2 units have sold worldwide by the beginning of January 2026 and the option to add more colors to the offering extends the level of individualization offered to more and more users.
The presence of high demand is shown by the high sell-out rate of UK stocks shortly after the launch of pre-orders on the Nintendo online store.
Pricing Pressures Continue
The announcement of these new Joy-Cons is accompanied by an overall trend of rising prices of the hardware Nintendo products.
In August 2025, Nintendo raised the price of Joy-Cons to $99.99 instead of $94.99, but did not change the retail price of the Switch 2 and kept it at $449.99. There were systems like the Switch OLED used earlier that the price adjustments were greater.
Analysts attribute such price increases to rising production costs and U.S. import tariffs on goods produced by large manufacturing hubs such as China, Japan, and Vietnam and given that they outweigh the gaming hardware industry in the wider market place.
Switch 2 Momentum
The Switch 2 was sold in record numbers, selling 3.5 million units during its first four days and selling over 10 million units following its release on June 5, 2025, surpassing the initial sales trend of its predecessor, the Switch.
Its sales growth slowed in the holiday season, with the United States beginning to record a sales decline of about 35 % compared to the sales made last year when the first switch was introduced, though global sales actually grew on a yearly basis.
Nintendo now projects that the Switch 2 will sell 19 million units during the fiscal year that ends in March 2026, with the launch of new versions of Joy-Con to keep the consumers interested.
The association of the new accessories with an exclusive name like Mario Tennis Fever, is an established tactic to promote the sale of accessories, which strengthens the already growing ecosystem around the Switch 2 in coming years regardless of the expected growth in competitive pressure in 2026.
A Strategic Accessory Play
The introduction of the new JoyCon color options with the release of Joy’s Tennis Fever is an exemplary Nintendo tactic, which requires first-party software marketing to drive the purchase of accessories.
The fact of backward compatibility, combined with the magnetic nature of Joy-Cons, already plays into the user retention; thus, the fact that the color variations are more serves to maintain the interest even at the times when hardware demand is at minimal.
Nintendo will expand the Joy-Con color palette across the impending 2026, the analysts believe, as the company faces tariff pressure and stiff competition.
Katie Holt from Ampere Analysis stated;
With nearly 130 million active users across the original Switch family and Switch 2 by the end of 2026, backwards compatibility and cross-generational publishing represent a huge opportunity. With a peak in 2028, the 130 million+ active consoles should last two to three years.
Currently, pastel Joy-Cons are an indicator of confidence by Nintendo. Nintendo is not only the product of the hardware; it is rejuvenating the brand image of the Switch 2 on the verge of entering a very competitive market landscape.
