Amazon Pharmacy is rapidly changing their operations where they are implementing same day prescription delivery service to 4,500 cities and towns in the United States by the end of the year. 

This massive growth will introduce about 2,000 communities, not only underserved but also in states like Idaho and Massachusetts.

Patients shouldn’t have to choose between speed, cost, and convenience when it comes to their medication, regardless of where they live,

said John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy.

Expansion Details

The project was announced on February 11, 2026, and it uses logistical resources of Amazon, as pharmacies are incorporated in same-day delivery centers. Amazon’s RxPass, a $5-per-month prescription subscription service, has expanded to Prime members in 48 states, including Texas. 

RxPass offers free, fast delivery in eligible locations for over 50 commonly prescribed medications for diabetes, hypertension, anxiety, and heart disease. Amazon also acquired One Medical, a national primary care provider, in 2023. Patients can access primary and urgent care for a $199 annual subscription fee through it.

Roots and Recent Wins

Since acquiring PillPack in 2018, Amazon has steadily expanded its presence in pharmaceuticals distribution. Amazon Pharmacy also offers medications such as the Wegovy pill, the only FDA-approved oral GLP-1 for weight management. 

Transparent pricing begins as low as $25 for a one-month supply, with insurance and cash-pay options beginning at $149 per month. Delivery times have improved significantly, with average shipment arriving in less than two days and half of the U.S. population is now covered by the same-day coverage.

Future Ahead

In case Amazon continues its growth pattern, analysts indicate that this company might end up with a much larger market share in the United States pharmaceutical market. 

Future opportunities can be AI-based inventory management and deeper support of the primary care network of One Medical. High medicine adherence rates would result in billions of dollars in savings in health care and this would give Amazon even more strength in distributing pharmaceuticals.
