The next generation iPhone18 of Apple is set to create a paradigm shift in mobile connectivity among the European markets since it will take a 100 % eSIM only design and in the process wipe out physical SIM trays.
The resulting strategic break, which continues on the early U.S. launch of the iPhone: the iPhone 14, is projected to result in smoother designs of devices and significant improvements in functionalities. According to the GSMA’s smartphone survey, 40% of mobile network operators expect manufacturers to release eSIM-only models in 2020 and 2021.
e-Sim Technology and Apple’s Iphone 18 Plans
In 2022, Apple became the first company in the United States to introduce the eSIM-only type, only to implement the strategy in other markets, including Mexico, Japan, and a total of a dozen countries by the launch of the iPhone 17. eSIM technology is a convenient alternative to traditional SIM cards that allows for easy activation and instant deactivation.
However, it is unsuitable for people who frequently switch devices. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 series at the same starting price as its iPhone 17 counterparts. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be announced in September this year, alongside the iPhone Fold. The standard iPhone 18 could be released next year, alongside the iPhone Air.
Battery Boost and Pricing Strategy
The key advantage is that there is a possibility of having bigger battery cells. According to a growing number of reports, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be the first iPhone to exceed 5,000 mAh capacity. The information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known Chinese leaker with a track record of revealing accurate supply-chain details.
The battery capacity is expected to be between 5,100 and 5,200 mAh, up from the 4,823 mAh found in the current iPhone 17 Pro Max. The pricing will not be affected as compared to the previous pricing where the iphone 18 pro will be priced at $1,099 and the iphone 18 pro max will be priced at $1,199, all because of the alliances with Samsung suppliers against the shortage of memory chips.
Moreover, the speculations of the foldable edition of the iPhone 18 create even more buzz, which would possibly place Samsung in a position to dominate that industry.
Outlook
In the future, the move solidifies the market leadership of Apple up to the year 2027. As the world approaches a rapidly expanding set of eSIM requirements across EU legislation and competitors in the same industry look to advance to stay relevant. As a result, the European market should be ready to fully accept this transformation without doubts.
