Sony Interactive Entertainment is shutting down Bluepoint Games, a company that has worked on the remake of one of the most popular underrated games, Demon’s Souls, and the remaster of the Shadow of the Colossus.

The Revocation of a Remake Expert

The experience of Bluepoint in renewing PlayStation brands made it worthwhile when Sony took it over in September 2021.

Other successful projects, such as the 2020 release of the Demon’s Souls version, based on PlayStation 5, and its co-development role on God of war Ragnarok, a project that sold over 1.4 billion copies, are excellent examples of the technical excellence of the studio.

After the Ragnarok project, Sony repurposes the group and employs it in a live-service setting as a God of War spin-off.

That project was abandoned in January 2025, and came with a streak of other larger live-service problems, such as the closure of Concord servers just two weeks after launch and the closure of Firewalk Studios.

According to Bloomberg, Sony decided to shut down the studio following “a recent business review.” Around 70 employees will lose their jobs as part of the studio closure, which will officially happen in March.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,”

Sony said in a statement to Bloomberg.

“We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

Future Reports with Sony Playstation

In the future, Sony seems to be focusing on business with fewer risks: remaster sales are already on the rise, making PS5 versions of its games. Other studios like Guerrillas Horizon Hunters incorporate co-operation experiments, and the release of Bungie will be in March 2026.

The breakdown of Bluepoint is an ominous sign of strategic instability at the company. Can Sony repeat the magic of remakes over other first-party studios, or will such a choice reduce the number of successful revivals to come amid a more blockbuster-focused climate?
