China is anticipated to establish post-quantum cryptography standards within 3 years, based on the analysis of technology experts and specialists. The country is massively investing in next-generation security technologies.

These emphasis have been noticed due to the increasing demand for data protection globally. Moreover, once a quantum computer is developed, it will have the ability to easily break numerous encrypted systems. To attain this benefit, the government is aggressively working to create cryptographic methods that can assist in withstanding powerful systems.

Quantum technology has become mainstream in China’s long-term plan. The country has recently announced that this technology will be the main focus for the next five-year plan. Within the next 5 years, the country will also work on other rising sectors such as advanced artificial intelligence, nuclear fusion, and brain-computer interfaces.

As a professor at Tsinghua University’s Institute for Advanced Study, Wang Xiaoyun has analyzed that the country has officially entered a critical phase where it would prioritize the new emerging sectors, resulting in changing the future of the country. She further claims that in the next 3-5 years, there will be extensive expansion in the adoption of post-quantum cryptography.

These new changes in the engineering and security sections will be conducted by the finance and energy sectors. They will give primary importance to securing highly confidential data.

China is adopting a unique method to cryptographic research when compared to international efforts. This is because globally, researchers are focusing on algebraic lattice-based methods, whereas the Chinese scientists are adopting structureless lattice algorithms. Furthermore, Wang stated that these approaches have a stronger security resistance as compared to other models.

China is strongly committed to quantum innovation due to global competition. As countries like the United States have already announced their first post-quantum cryptography. Moreover, South Korea has also actively invested in outlining plans to implement quantum-resistant encryption in various industries.

As nations are strongly emphasizing a post-quantum future, China is also playing a major role in improving the next generation of cybersecurity standards.
