Pokémon Go Raises Level Cap to 80 and Rebalances XP in Biggest Update Since 2020

Pokémon Go will finally change its leveling system. It was the same as five years ago. Players are currently fighting to reach level 50, which is the highest in the game since 2020. Niantic has now announced that this will be increased to level 80. It is a massive change that gives players a new target to work towards, following years of battling to keep reaching the top.

The relocation also comes with a repackaging of experience points XP, which means that there is going to be a less bumpy progression. Although moving up to 80 is not going to be easy, players will no longer experience the same incredibly high obstacles that led to the slow movement up to level 50.

It has a Smoother XP Curve.

Complaints about the levelling system in Pokémon Go revolved very heavily around how much it made you do after level 40. Not only did the players have to grind a significant number of XP, but they also had to accomplish formidable challenges like throwing exceptional passes, reaching friend levels, or evolving certain Pokémon. These activities commonly took months to complete, and some players abandoned them unfinished.

The additional work between levels 41 and 50 with the new system is being eliminated. Instead, leveling up will be primarily based on XP. This makes leveling easier and less problematic. Niantic has assured that no current progress is going to be lost by any player. In case you already have sufficient XP under the new system, then you will be boosted to the adequate level as soon as the update is released on October 18.

The level beyond 70

Although the initial part of the levelling curve will be easier, the process of acquiring levels between 71 and 80 is going to be a significant challenge. Niantic has confirmed that there would be more added to this final stretch, with the top levels remaining the province of those who are most dedicated. This means it still feels a sense of accomplishment on the highest level.

There will also be rewards all the way to keep the players motivated. These include additional new avatar items, more storage of Pokémon, items and gifts, and plenty of other things that otherwise require money. Those who have already capped their storage will continue to be given an increase, and this is indeed welcome.

Old Levels Rewards

Individuals who are proud of meeting milestones, and want to maintain the historical ones, will also continue to meet them. Such items as the Level 50 Jacket will be deprecated, and only players who have done so will still have access to the item. Two new profile medals will also indicate whether that player has reached level 49 or level 50 by the deadline of October 15. Such introductions provide long-time gamers with a feeling of history and credit to the past grind.

Pre continuously with the update

Ahead of the update, Niantic has created a series of bonuses to prepare the players. Until October 14, a player will earn double XP by catching a Pokémon and additionally 3,000 XP with a raid win and a Max Battle. There will be Timed Research activities as well that provide up to 7 million XP. The boosts are targeted at bringing the players one step closer to the new system and ensuring a smooth transition.

Fortune Friend Bonus and Societal Game

The release of the update also includes a higher likelihood that players at level 70 or higher will become Lucky Friends. This makes trading Pokémon more worthwhile as Lucky trades result in better stats Pokémon and cost less Stardust. It is a minor but sweet bonus to top players who frequently use trading to fill their sets.

What the Future has in Store with Pokémon Go

This increase in the cap on the level is not taking place in isolation. Niantic is also hinting at the next season of Pokémon Go with the impending release of Meta Metagross and the long-anticipated release of the Mythical Pokémon Keldeo. These new things will provide more to the players outside of the levelling grind and provide new targets to reach for both collectors and those focused on battling.

The most significant progression changes which were introduced in Pokémon Go since 2020 is the increase of the level limit to 80. The reduction in frustrating hindrances that disrupt the XP gains, making the experience smoother, will make players have a stronger incentive to continue being active.

Meanwhile, the rugged ascent between 71 and 80 keeps the game rewarding to players who work hard. Together with new rewards, legacy recognition, and upcoming Pokémon releases, such an update is an essential step in the development and evolution of Pokémon Go.
