Ghost of Yotei Sells 3.3 Million Copies in First Month

Sony has attested to the fact that Ghost of Tsushima, the Sucker Punch Productions exclusive on PlayStation 5, sold 3.3 million copies in the first month of sale. These figures cover those sales up to November 2, and the action-adventure title was released on October 2, 2025. The data do not have an in-depth commentary about the performance offered by Sony, but they made it possible to analyze the commercial success of the game and its role in the modern gaming industry in a comprehensive manner.

In comparison with Ghost of Tsushima

The closest benchmark that can be considered natural is Ghost of Tsushima, the last Sucker Punch hit released in 2020. That game sold 2.4 million copies in its initial three days and sold more than 5 million copies in four months. Then, when the PS5 and PC Director’s Cut editions were added, Ghost of Tsushima sold more than 13 million copies all over the world.

At first glance, the sales statistics of Ghost of Yotei might seem relatively low, but the big picture is crucial. The title was released only on the PS5, which had a smaller user base compared to the PS4 in 2020. Additionally, the pandemic of that time had further boosted the sales of gaming globally and made Ghost of Tsushima have a particular privilege that Ghost of Yotei does not have. Once this has been taken into account, it is hard to argue with the fact that selling 3.3 million copies within slightly more than a month proves that there is consistent high demand in the samurai-based stories of Sucker Punch.

Pricing and Market Context

Another factor is that of pricing. Ghost of Yotei was released at a higher price compared to Ghost of Tsushima, which came at $60 as a regular edition. As a result, Ghost of Yotei earned Sony more revenue despite the similarity in the unit sales. This high price is driven by the rising development costs, as well as the higher positioning of the new PlayStation 5 titles.

Its commercial potential is also associated with the time of release. The fall release will give Ghost of Yotei a strategic edge as the holiday period continues. As the PS5 Pro is predicted to launch and further spur sales of consoles, the game will receive a second wave of buying the same in November and December.

Future Boost in Legends and PC Release

Sucker Punch has also affirmed that Ghost of Yotei: Legends, a multiplayer expansion, will be available in 2026. This new content will help revitalize interest in the player and increase the life cycle of the game, similar to the effect of the Legends mode on Ghost of Tsushima. Another version, a future PC, also seems to be a certainty, since Sony is already engaging in the practice of bringing big PlayStation exclusives to PC several years later. In the event of such a transition, sales will also increase again.

The Implication of Sucker Punch to Sony and Sucker Punch

Though 3.3 million copies is not a record performance, it is a good show of performance of a single platform exclusive in 2025. According to market analysts, its launch has been characterized as being ideally acceptable, neither exceptional nor disappointing. In the case of Sucker Punch, the result proves that the gamers are still excited about its version of open-world narration and movie-like fighting.

The head of its studio, Brian Fleming, has pointed out that the group is not going to decide on its next project until Ghost of Yotei: Legends has been released, implying that Sucker Punch still values quality over quantity.

Conclusively, the introduction of Ghost of Yotei proves to be a good beginning and not a bang. However, its commercial story is still alive and developing with the impending holiday period, multiplayer update and the expected PC port.
