Where Are LG TVs Made & Who Makes Them?

In the consumer TV space, LG is needs no introduction. The brand has been around since 1947, and has made some of the best TVs we’ve ever seen. Today, LG is the second biggest TV maker, behind Samsung, in the US and worldwide, and sells around 2,500 television sets every hour. This success can be attributed to the company’s expertise in the OLED space, where it holds a market share of over 50%.

LG TVs are part of the LG Electronics brand, a South Korean conglomerate originally known as Lucky-Goldstar. The company started in 1947, but back then, it wasn’t an electronics manufacturer. In fact, LG first started making beauty products, such as the “Lucky Cream,” under the name Lak Hui (Lucky) Chemical Industrial Corp. That’s where the “L” comes from in the name. Goldstar was another company in South Korea, which started tech manufacturing after the Korean War. In 1983, the two companies merged to form what we now know as LG.

Where Does LG Make Its TVs?

Since LG is a Korean company, its first TVs were made in South Korea. Production for it started back in 1966, under the name Goldstar at the Oncheon-dong factory near Busan. It became the first television set to be manufactured in Korea. After achieving some success, LG expanded its TV manufacturing to various parts of the globe, catering to different countries. For example, TVs for the US market are made in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. European buyers get their TVs from Poland. Australian and Asian market TVs are manufactured in Indonesia or Vietnam.

There’s a twist, though. Since it’s impossible to find all the raw materials required for a television set in every country, the plants we mentioned are assembly factories. LG ships components from Korea, China, and Vietnam to these factories, where they are assembled into the finished product.
