Google is bringing more improvements to its health and fitness services. The company has added over 55 features and fixes to the Google Health app and Health Coach since their launch. Recent changes include better health tracking, more options to customize the Today tab, improved Apple Health integration, and simpler meal logging. Google is also expanding its wearable lineup with Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5.
Google Health Adds Health Guardian Features and Upgrades Automatic Workout Detection
Google is introducing Health Guardian, a new set of health and safety tools for Fitbit Air users. The features will roll out later this month to users with a Google Health Premium subscription. Users can set up blood pressure and insulin resistance trends in the Google Health app. If they meet the monthly wear requirements, Google will send them a report at the beginning of each month. These reports can help users spot changes early and adjust their lifestyle. Google Health Premium users can also ask their Health Coach to explain these changes, adjust fitness plans, and offer personalized health and wellness guidance.
Google has enhanced its automatic activity detection system to make workout tracking more advanced, accurate, and reliable. This update will roll out to Fitbit Air, Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Watch 5 in the coming month. Now, Google Health can detect more than 100 different activities, up from the previous 10. These include strength training, swimming, racket sports, and team sports.
This system uses workout schedules, exercise history, manual edits, and location data to detect exercises. Google states that this detection method is twice as accurate and reduces missed detections by over 50%. This system automatically detects any workout lasting at least 15 minutes and keeping the user’s heart rate above their baseline. The workout report is automatically sent to the user’s phone within 30 minutes. Users can also confirm or edit detected activities to help the system learn their workout patterns and improve future predictions.
Google Plans More Improvements for Fitbit and Google Health
Google isn’t stopping with its latest workout-tracking update. The company plans to improve the automatic activity detection feature based on user feedback. Notably, the company’s growing lineup of wearable devices, such as Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5, supports Google Health’s health and fitness features. Together, these tools aim to deliver more personalized health insights and help users build a healthier, more active routine.
