Microsoft Supercharges Windows 11 With On-Device AI for Faster, Private Copy-Pasting

The Advanced Paste option within the PowerToys application developed in Windows 11 utilizes active algorithms of artificial-intelligence directly on the device of their applicant, eliminating the need to process them through cloud services and increasing the speed and confidentiality.

The basic yet significant change of this revision is that it changes the interaction between users with clipboard-based artificial-intelligence and allows more flexibility and control to be gained without any extra financial costs.

Smarter Clipboard Tool

In November 2025, in the release of Microsoft PowerToys (version 0.96), the Advanced Paste option was updated to take advantage of on-device AI models provided by the Foundry Local tool and the Ollama open-source framework.

By utilizing the operating methods of a neural-processing unit (NPU) of the device, including translation, summarization, and similar functions, these models allow reducing reliance on cloud API credits and keeping sensitive data within the scope of the local environment.

In addition, the tool now supports a range of different AI models such as Azure OpenAI, Gemini, and Mistral, giving more customization and computation capabilities to users on different tasks.

Improved User Experience

Microsoft has also overhauled the Advanced Paste interface, displaying clipboard content on the screen and showing a simplified drop-down menu to choose an AI model alongside the technical upgrades.

Such redesign makes the workflow much more efficient and provides higher levels of transparency of data being processed.

The PowerToys suite is no exception, with the inclusion of features that enhance usability and stability of the system in general.

Industry Impact and Outlook

In 2025, most organizations around the globe had implemented artificial-intelligence solutions (78%), showing a high rate of using it as a quick part of day-to-day productivity assistants.

Microsoft shifting to on-device AI is a wider trend of not being dependent on clouds, spending less, and improving privacy.

It is likely that in the future the trend towards decentralized AI processing will only increase, especially as users will become highly sensitive with respect to convenience and privacy.

The Advanced Paste project provides a precedent that is bound to be followed by other productivity software thus hastening the production of a new era where AI is used to provide a significant amount of functionality without compromising the information of the users.
