After shoving AI into every software imaginable, YouTube Music is testing a new AI Radio Host feature that interrupts your listening session with stories about the song, fun facts, the artist’s background, and commentate just like a real radio jockey. This feature comes as a direct response to Spotify’s AI DJ, which works in a similar fashion.
YouTube is currently beta testing this feature through its new Labs platform. In a blog post, YouTube said Labs is “a new initiative dedicated to exploring the potential of AI on YouTube.” The feature is currently available only to listeners in the United States, and YouTube is likely to refine it based on user feedback before releasing it worldwide.
Some people really like Spotify’s AI DJ because it uses the company’s excellent song recommendation algorithm, while also having some casual talk, almost like tuning into a radio station. YouTube Music’s AI host, on the other hand, focuses on providing more depth through stories and facts about the tracks. This makes playlists feel more detailed and engaging, even though both services want to keep users connected to their music in a personal way.
Together with AI-host, viewers have access to a combination of information and entertainment when they stream. The AI host will share short stories, interesting information, and details about music and artists. Playlists will become more personal, nearly as if you have a DJ or a buddy to lead you through your most-liked songs. This aspect could keep some listeners attentive and allow them to have a good time discovering new music.
